Shane Gillis Hosts SNL Again: The Dates and the Stadium Record

Shane Gillis hosts SNL on Oct. 10, 2026. Get his three hosting dates, the season 52 lineup, and his record-setting Philadelphia stadium show.

You see Shane Gillis's name in this week's Saturday Night Live promos and wonder whether he hasn't hosted already. He has, twice. On Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, he hosts for the third time, with Rosalía as musical guest. His name has been all over the news lately because of a summer stadium show. On July 17, 2026, he played Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, and the stadium said the show set two Guinness World Records, including the largest audience ever for a comedian.

The answer: Oct. 10, with Rosalía

The episode airs this Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026. Gillis is the host and Rosalía is the musical guest. TheWrap reports that it is his third time hosting and her second time as musical guest.

How to watch: according to NBC, new episodes of SNL air live on NBC at 11:30 p.m. Eastern, which is 10:30 Central and 8:30 Pacific. They also stream live on Peacock and are available there the next morning if you'd rather watch on Sunday.

The record in one line: about 74,000 people (73,946, according to the stadium) came to see him at the Eagles' home stadium. That beat a stand-up attendance mark that had stood since 2008, and the stadium says the show also set a new record for tickets sold.

The full story starts with his history at SNL, which began badly.

His three hosting dates

In September 2019, SNL named Gillis as a new cast member for season 45, together with Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang. Within hours, clips from his podcast with racist and homophobic remarks were circulating online. NBC News reported that the show dropped him days later, before he had appeared in a single episode. A statement on behalf of Lorne Michaels said the show's vetting "was not up to our standard."

His later appearances have been as host:

  • Feb. 24, 2024: first time hosting, with 21 Savage as musical guest
  • Mar. 1, 2025: second time hosting, with Tate McRae as musical guest
  • Oct. 10, 2026: third time hosting, with Rosalía as musical guest

That is three hosting jobs in under three years for someone who never made it into the cast. Few people have that kind of history with the show.

Season 52 around his episode

Gillis hosts the third episode of season 52. According to NBC, the fall lineup is:

  • Sept. 26: Jalen Brunson, with KATSEYE (season premiere)
  • Oct. 3: Dakota Johnson, with Turnstile
  • Oct. 10: Shane Gillis, with Rosalía
  • Oct. 31: Inde Navarrette, with Gracie Abrams

NBC's schedule has no new episodes for Oct. 17 or Oct. 24 and doesn't say why. After Gillis, the next new episode on the schedule airs on Halloween night. That gives his episode an unusually long time as the newest one, so its sketches will probably get more replays and clips online than most.

The stadium show

The reason his name kept appearing between hosting jobs is one night in July. On July 17, 2026, Gillis headlined Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. He announced the show in November 2025, and Fox 29 called it the largest headlining show of his career.

The show was also a homecoming. Gillis is from Pennsylvania, graduated from West Chester University and started doing stand-up in Philadelphia, including at Helium Comedy Club.

The stadium reported the following:

  • Attendance: 73,946
  • Tickets sold: 77,047

The tickets-sold figure is higher than attendance, which is normal at stadium events because some ticket holders don't show up.

For a sense of scale, the Inquirer noted that when Kevin Hart played the same stadium in 2015, about 53,000 tickets were for sale. Gillis sold roughly 24,000 more than that, and Hart's show was itself one of the best-known stadium comedy shows in the U.S.

Several surprise guests appeared during the night:

  • Dave Chappelle, comedian
  • Meek Mill, a Philadelphia rapper
  • Three 6 Mafia, the Memphis hip-hop group
  • Jason Kelce, retired Eagles center
  • Jordan Mailata, Eagles offensive tackle

Two of those guests play or played for the Eagles, whose home field this is.

The two Guinness records

According to Lincoln Financial Field, the show set two Guinness World Records:

  1. Largest audience for a comedian. The previous holder was German comedian Mario Barth. The Inquirer, citing Guinness's database, reports that Barth drew 67,733 people at a 2008 show. Variety reports that the show took place at Berlin's Olympiastadion on July 12, 2008. Gillis's 73,946 beat that by about 6,200 people, so a record that stood for 18 years was broken by a clear margin.
  1. Most tickets sold for a comedy show by a solo comedian. Variety reports that this category was new and that Guinness set 54,000 tickets as the minimum needed to claim it. Gillis's sales were well above that.

Expect slightly different numbers depending on where you read about the show. The stadium and Fox 29 give 77,047 tickets sold. Some early reports, including Chortle's, gave a lower figure of 76,212, probably because they used an earlier count. The official Guinness certificate isn't public, so which figure Guinness certified can't be confirmed. Attendance has a similar problem: most outlets say 73,946, but at least one printed 73,496, which looks like a typo with two digits swapped. The stadium's figure is 73,946.

Whichever ticket figure is correct, both are far above the 54,000 minimum, and the attendance beat Barth's mark either way.
